Late Mirisim arrives home

Telefomin people smeared in mud as a respect to their fallen MP Solan Mirisim (NBC News: Denys Kalau)

The body of late Works and Highways Minister, Solan Mirisim arrived to a grieving crowd at his home district in Telefomin yesterday, as people gathered to bid farewell for their beloved leader and son.

The casket was accompanied by immediate family and members from greater Sepik including Madang Governor Ramsey Pariwa on a Tropic air charter from Vanimo.

Hundreds lined the airstrip, many smeared in mud as a sign of respect for their fallen leader.

Others rushed towards the sound of the plane, watching tearfully as pallbearers removed the casket.

Truck convoys then escorted the casket to the station for his people to pay their respects , to a leader , many say has transform their lives in this remote part of the country.

Speeches and presentation of food by the Department of Works , Ok Tedi mine , and Ipwenz construction among others to honour the legacy of this leader.

West Sepik Governor Tony Wouwou then officially handed over the casket to the Telefomin people and district ahead of his journey to the 7 LLG todays.
