A new generation of leadership has emerged in Goroka after Ward Two Councilor Rapheal Obeso won a tightly contested mayoral race yesterday, securing the position by a narrow 3–2 vote over Ward One Councilor David Sari.

The election, held at the Bird of Paradise Hotel, was crucial for Goroka Town as Obeso, one of the younger members of the council, steps into the top municipal role. Immediately after his win, he appointed Ward Four Councilor Manjiro Manu Kirape as his deputy, forming a refreshed leadership team for the urban LLG.

Obeso thanked Goroka District Administrator Benson Imara, the Goroka Urban Manager, and district and LLG Affairs officers for delivering a smooth and transparent election.

Senior Provincial Magistrate Josephine Nidue officiated the swearing-in ceremony.
