NBC retraces headline
The National Broadcasting Corporation has retracted a headline it published earlier during the day derived from a statement made by the Minister for Police and Acting Minister for Information Communication and Technology Peter Tsiamalili Jr.
The headline reads, “Tsiamalili says 2027 elections will proceed in Bougainville”
The headline may have implied an opposing response against President Ismael Toroama’s comments made during this week’s Joint Supervisory Body meeting and further portrayed as a directive from the regional member for Bougainvillie that election will proceed.
The choice of words by the online editor in this instance did not reflect the intent of the story and statement by Minister Tsiamalili and we acknowledge and regret the implication it might have had for the good minister and people of Bougainvillie plus the ABG government.
The minister was articulating the Constitutional process of why an election is conducted every 5 years and what is written in law.
We again sincerely apologize to the minister and have published a correction of the headline and story.
