CLRC wants Papua New Guineans taught their constitutional rights
Secretary for the Constitutional Law Reform Commission, [CLRC] Dr Mange Matui, wants to see Papua New Guineans be educated about the country's constitution.
Dr Matui says people must learn to know the law and how it serves to protect their rights and well-being.
The CLRC secretary says the department needs to collaborate with agencies to make more awareness going forward.
"The constitution exhaustively provides for all our rights, the UN universal declaration of rights, everything we get, and we put into the constitution, freedom of movement, freedom of speech, all these rights we need to educate our people." Dr Matui said.
"I think one of the things that we've been discussing and something that we would like to see come out is the constitution and the national goals and directive principles," Matui added.
The CLRC secretary emphasized the importance of bringing the constitution's goals and directive principles to educate the young generations, who are still in primary school and high school.
"How do we take out the human rights provisions and educate the young ones who are still coming, not only the young ones, but the older generations as well and I think these are important rights that we need to educate our people and we need to do more awareness and education on some of the things within the constitution." Dr Matui concluded.
