Continuous threats, harassment and violent behavior to health workers at the Sisiak Clinic in Madang Urban Local Level Government has led to its temporary closure.

Chief Executive Officer of the Madang Provincial Health Authority, Dr Martin Daimen, announced this decision in a public notice issued last Thursday.

Dr Daimen stated that the authority has taken this measure with regret but is necessary in light of recent attacks directed at clinical staff stationed at the facility.

He said the most recent incident involving the assault of health workers represents a serious escalation of law and order that the Madang PHA will not tolerate.

"It is deeply concerning that individuals who dedicate their time, skills and compassion to serve the community, many of whom are volunteers, continue to face harm whilst performing their duties.

"These acts not only endanger the wellbeing of our staff but also undermine the very health services meant to benefit the people of Sisiak and Public Tank settlements," said Dr Daimen.

The Madang PHA has made it clear that services at the clinic will not resume until the perpetrators responsible for the recent incidences are identified and brought forward by the community and their leaders.

He said the responsibility now lies with the residents of Sisiak and Public Tank settlements to demonstrate their commitment to protecting health workers and ensuring their safety.

Dr Daimen reiterated the decision was taken with a heavy heart but added the safety of the staff is paramount.
