The Melanesian Spearhead Group Prime Minister’s Cup has announced a major scheduling change. All men’s and women’s semifinals have been moved to Thursday, with officials citing player safety and international match regulations.

The Host Organizing Committee for the MSG Prime Minister’s Cup has confirmed that all semifinal matches, for both men and women, will now be played tomorrow at the PNG Football Stadium.

The adjustment follows New Caledonia’s earlier withdrawal and what officials describe as a tight match schedule for the remaining teams.

Under MSG and FIFA regulations, teams must receive at least 48 hours of rest between matches to ensure player safety and wellbeing.

This requirement prompted the committee to delay the games, despite strong anticipation for Wednesday’s fixtures.

Committee say this decision supports athlete welfare and will deliver a higher-quality semifinal showcase for all Melanesians.

They say bringing all semifinals together on one day and at one venue will also help boost broadcast reach, improve livestream quality, and lift fan attendance, aligning with this year’s theme, ‘Celebrate Melanesia.’

Meanwhile, the 3rd/4th Place Playoffs and the Grand Finals will proceed as scheduled on Sunday at the Sir John Guise Stadium.

The Host Committee has thanked teams, officials, and supporters for their patience as Papua New Guinea works to deliver a safe, fair, and exciting tournament for the region.
