Four in custody after Pindiu election violence
Four suspects involved in the election-related mayhem in Pindiu, Hube LLG, Finschhafen District are now in police custody at the Lae cells.
Morobe Provincial Police Commander Superintendent Samson Siguyaru said the men were escorted to Lae on Saturday afternoon by Water Police.
He confirmed that police also recovered a firearm, 20 live rounds, and several empty shell casings, which will be used as evidence.
The Pindiu violence left two people dead, nine seriously injured and more than 20 houses burnt after clashes between rival candidates for the Hube LLG president’s seat.
Police evacuated six critically injured people to Lae on Friday and are continuing to monitor the situation, which remains tense but under control.
