Security tightened as LLG election counting gets underway at Kimininga Regional Police Barracks
Security has been tightened at the Kimininga Regional Police Barracks counting center as counting for the Western Highlands Provincial local level government [LLG] elections officially commenced yesterday.
Police presence around the counting venue was visibly hyped, with officers maintaining strict control over movement in and out of the area to ensure a safe and orderly environment.
The heightened Security measure come as electoral officials begins tabling votes votes for various LLG wards across the province beginning yesterday with Kotna LLG, Baiyer LLG, Lower Kagul LLG and Mala Kinjibi LLG.
Western Highlands Provincial Police Commander Chief Superintendent John Sagom issued a strong warning to candidates, supporters, and members of the public to refrain from any behavior that could incite violence, disrupt the counting process, or create unnecessary tension.
PPC Sagom said Police will not tolerate any form of disturbance during this critical period and urged supporters to be respectful of the democratic process.
He emphasized that counting officials and security personnel must be allowed to perform their duties without intimidation or interference.
" We want to ensure that the counting and declaration process runs smoothly and without any trouble", Sagom stated.
" I am appealing to all supporters to behave responsibly and not cause any havoc, fights, or disorder during and after the counting."
The Western Highlands Police Chief added that police will be on high alert throughout the entire process and will deal swiftly without anyone attempting to provoke conflict or influence the process.
Sagom also encouraged community leaders and candidates to take responsibility for their supporters, reminding them that elections should unity communities rather than divide them.
Meanwhile, counting officials at Kimininga reported that the first day of counting progressed well without any major incident, thanks to the coordinated efforts of police and election authorities.
Counting is expected to continue over the coming days, with declarations and anticipated ones all ballots have been verified and tallied.
