Manus students studying at the University of Goroka have safely begun their journey home after being repatriated from Madang.

Member for Manus Job Pomat in a statement released this morning, confirmed that all the students were escorted on board the MV Lapan Oule last night. Their cargo, including personal belongings and supplies for the trip, was also loaded and secured.

The vessel received final port clearance this morning and departed Madang before 10am.

Mr Pomat said the safety and well-being of the students had been the top priority and thanked teams in both Madang and Manus for working tirelessly to organise the operation.

He also acknowledged the prayers and support from families and the wider Manus community throughout the process.

The students are expected to arrive safely in Manus in the coming days.
