Madang sends police convoy to Goroka to bring students home safely
The Madang Provincial Government, in partnership with the Madang Provincial Police Command, has dispatched a convoy of buses and police vehicles to Goroka to safely escort Madang students from the University of Goroka [UOG] back home.
The convoy, made up of six 25-seater PMV buses and two police vehicles carrying ten officers, departed Madang Town late last night and is expected to return with the students later today.
Governor Ramsey Pariwa said he has been closely monitoring the situation in Goroka following the weekend’s violent clashes between students and the local community.
“I want to assure all Madang parents that our students are safe and will be brought home under police escort,” Governor Pariwa said.
He expressed concern that the unrest had disrupted the academic program, preventing Madang students from sitting their scheduled examinations this week.
The move follows similar repatriation efforts by other provincial governments to ensure the safe evacuation of their students from Goroka after UOG suspended classes indefinitely on Sunday.
