10 new police houses commissioned in Bereina under Special Assistance Program
10 new houses have been commissioned for police officers at Bereina Police Station in the Kairuku District, funded through the Marape-Roso Government Special Police Assistance Program [SPAP] with an allocation of K3.9 million. The commissioning was officiated by Police Minister Peter Tsiamalili on Friday, November 7.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Tsiamalili acknowledged the government’s support for police infrastructure across rural areas, highlighting that while Kairuku District is just an hour from Port Moresby, it still faces a lack of government services.
“This government, through SPAP, is making a real difference in policing infrastructure, particularly in rural areas,” Minister Tsiamalili said. “I want to appreciate my police officers. Continue to serve your country; this is your country. Despite criticism, you have a minister who has the greatest trust in all of you.”
The minister also outlined ongoing initiatives to strengthen the police force, including providing vehicles, improving facilities, ensuring officers are properly trained, repatriating retired officers, and supplying uniforms.
He urged current officers to mentor new recruits, teaching them discipline and good practices learned at Bomana Police College, ensuring the future of policing in the country remains strong.
Before officially commissioning the houses and the renovated police station, Minister Tsiamalili thanked the Berina landowners for providing land and Berina MP and Energy Minister Peter Namea Isoaimo for donating two Toyota Land Cruiser vehicles to support local policing.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by senior police officials from Police Headquarters, NCD/Central Command, local officers, and members of the Mekeo and Bereina communities.
