Madang MP Bryan Kramer has called for amendments to the District Development Authority Act 2014, so as to prevent the execution of Garnishee orders without representation by district officers or a representative from the Department of Justice and Attorney General in court.

His call follows similar experiences where a law firm in the province used this court order, to obtain payments of up to K5 million from the district account.

He says amendments to the act will ensure monies are not deducted from accounts without notice to account holders and even representation in court:

The Madang DDA was able to stop a garnishee order for another K5million.

Kramer told NBC News, the K5 million paid from the DDA account relates to default judgments obtained against the district under the former MP, for which cases were not properly served or represented to ensure representation.
