The grieving family of 25-year-old Jordan Fehiniaka, who was brutally murdered last month at Yarapi outside Wewak Town, is calling for justice and urging authorities to ensure the full force of the law is applied to those responsible.

Speaking on behalf of the family, paternal uncle David Yawingu and Aunty Pauline Sapui expressed their deep sorrow and emphasized their decision to refrain from traditional payback or retaliation. Instead, they are advocating for peace and the proper application of justice.

“We are calling authorities to ensure all perpetrators involved in the brutal attack and killing are brought to justice. We have faith in our justice system and police to ensure peace is maintained. No amount of money in compensation will bring back the life of our son, only justice will give us peace,” Mr. Yawingu stated.

The family’s appeal comes at a time when Papua New Guinea marks its 50th year of independence—a milestone they say should inspire a shift in societal values.

“As PNG turns 50, our mindsets should change. We must not allow such barbaric behavior to rule in our society. We call on every citizen to have faith in our justice system, and in return, our justice system should fully uphold the rule of law to ensure people’s trust and confidence,” Mr. Yawingu added.

According to Wewak Police two suspects appeared in Court for mention, while investigations are continuing.

Police and family members have also appealed to the public for assistance, urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and support the pursuit of justice.

Jordan Fehiniaka's death has sent shockwaves through the community, prompting calls for unity, accountability, and a renewed commitment to peace and lawful conduct.
