Sports can be used as a tool to create awareness, and Cricket PNG has been using the sport of cricket to create awareness.

In a statement released today by Cricket PNG, the sport says it proudly stands in solidarity with the global and national movement for Pinktober 2025 Cancer Awareness Month.

Cricket PNG used the recently held Women’s ODI Series between Papua New Guinea and the United Arab Emirates this month to share key messages on cancer awareness, encouraging Papua New Guineans to know the signs, support one another, and take action for their health.

In support of the cause, Cricket PNG Management and Staff wore pink ribbons and decorated their offices and match venues with pink balloons, standing in unity with cancer survivors and all those who have worked tirelessly to raise awareness across the nation, from major centers to rural communities and settlements throughout Papua New Guinea.

Cricket PNG Chairman Michael Harrision says it is important to use sport to share information and keep the conversation going about cancer prevention.

PNG Lewas captain Brenda Tau also reflected on the team’s pride and connection to the campaign and said,

“It is great that our national cricket team uniform is pink, it is the colour that stands for strength, courage, and awareness," she said.

"Wearing it proudly during this month, and winning while doing so, makes a strong statement. We carry that message back to our homes, communities, and villages, and we are proud to share it.”
