One month on, Dr Nicole Haley yet to assume Electoral Commissioner role

It's been a month since the appointment of Electoral Commissioner Dr Nicole Haley to oversee election operations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Her appointment was made known on June 30.

However, questions are now being raised about when she will officially assume duties.

Several leaders have urged the Prime Minister and Chief Secretary to immediately ensure that Dr Nicole Haley is sworn into office.

Among them is Opposition Leader James Nomane, who said her delay in taking office is increasing the risks to election preparations and its conduct.

Chairman of the Special Parliamentary Committee on Elections Alan Bird said there are so many activities that need to be completed, such as updating the common roll, which is among the key focus of Dr Haley.

The office of the Prime Minister remains tight lipped on the reason for the delay.

But, according to government officials, there are statutory and administrative requirements that are yet to be completed before Dr Haley can formally take office.

One of these requirements is the salary and remuneration for her contract
