Fly Panda wins Maso tournament

In an exciting display of sportsmanship and skill, Fly Panda emerged victorious in the Maso Cup rugby 13s tournament. The final match, held at Nomad Station-District headquarters of Middle Fly District in Western Province recently saw Fly Panda defeating Mountain Eagles with a score of 16-6.

The four days tournament brought together teams from various LLGs in Middle Fly District demonstrating the power of sports in fostering unity and friendship.

Teams traveled in from Bedamuni LLG, Pa'a LLG, Fly-Zibo LLG and Lake Murray LLG.

Middle Fly MP Maso Hewabi praised all participating teams for their commitment and sportsmanship, emphasizing the importance of sports in promoting unity and development in the district.

"Only through this we are seing Middle fly united here. Creating a bond of brotherhood. Seing ourselves as one. Each year bond will go strong," he said.

The winners of the Maso Cup rugby 13s tournament awards:

  • Best Backs: Freddy Steven [Nomad Warriors]
  • Best Forwards: George Edmond [Fly Panda]
  • Player of the Tournament: Otox Idobo [Mountain Eagles]
  • Top Try Scorer: Clifton Pasio [Fly Panda]
  • Golden Boot: Ogo Waea [Mountain Eagles]

All the officials were also given medals for their commitment in seeing this tournament a success.

Meantime, a total of 50 top players from the seven teams were selected and formed a team to represent Middle Fly in the upcoming provincial rugby tournament in Kiunga next month.
