Wouwou calls for unity to drive West Sepik forward

West Sepik Governor Tony Wouwou has urged the people of the province to unite and work together to drive development as Papua New Guinea enters its next 50 years of independence.
Speaking at the Independence Flag Raising Ceremony at Pope Francis Oval in Vanimo this morning, Governor Wouwou paid tribute to the nation’s founding leaders, including the Late Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare, the Late Sir Julius Chan, and other prominent figures who were instrumental in achieving independence. He also acknowledged the contributions of past leaders from West Sepik.

The celebrations were marked by a parade led by the PNG Defence Force, Police, and Correctional Service, joined by students from primary and secondary schools. Governor Wouwou inspected the parade before the national flag was raised to the singing of the National Anthem.
In his keynote address, the Governor said West Sepik has much to celebrate and contribute, stating both national pride and the province’s role in human development over the past 50 years.
Looking ahead, he called on all people of West Sepik including business houses, development partners, public servants, and communities to work hand in hand to bring progress and unity to the province over the next five decades.
