Team PNG ready for Commonwealth Games
Team PNG is ready to take its place on the international stage as the countdown ends for the opening of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The Opening Ceremony will be held at the OVO Hydro Arena on Thursday evening in Scotland, which is 5:00am Papua New Guinea time on Friday.
Papua New Guinea will compete in boxing, weightlifting, women's 3x3 basketball, swimming and athletics.
Team PNG Chef de Mission Elaine Iorive said the athletes have worked hard to prepare for one of the biggest sporting events on the Commonwealth calendar.
"After months of training and preparation, Team PNG is proud and excited to be part of the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony. Marching behind our flag on the world stage is a special moment for every athlete and official," she said.
Ms Iorive said the team is ready to represent Papua New Guinea with pride and showcase the country's resilience, talent and sporting spirit.
"We are ready to represent Papua New Guinea with pride and to showcase the resilience, talent and spirit of our people throughout the Games."
Team PNG begins competitions on Friday in the women's 3x3 basketball, swimming and boxing.
The Glasgow 2026 Opening Ceremony will also make Commonwealth Games history as the first to be staged entirely inside an indoor arena.
