Konio Oala’s record century powers PNG Lewas to crushing win over Philippines

Papua New Guinea batting star Konio Oala etched her name into the history books today with a brilliant unbeaten century, guiding the PNG Lewas to a commanding 168-run victory over the Philippines in Match 7 of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup East Asia-Pacific Qualifier at Albert Park 1, Suva.
Opening the innings, Oala produced a career-defining knock of 130 not out from 71 balls, smashing boundaries across the park to set up the Lewas’ record total of 224/1 in 20 overs.
Her innings not only sealed the Player of the Match award but also entered the record books, ranking ninth among the highest individual scores in women’s associate cricket.
Backed by Oala’s brilliance, the Lewas dominated with the ball, bowling out the Philippines for 56 in 19.4 overs. Veteran Pauke Siaka delivered a devastating spell, claiming 5 wickets for just 1 run, while Hane Tau (2/9) and Henao Thomas (2/11) chipped in with key breakthroughs.
The win displays PNG’s depth in both batting and bowling, but it was Oala’s batting masterclass that stood out as the defining moment of the match.
The PNG Lewas will next take on Samoa at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, 11 September 2025, as they continue their push for World Cup qualification.
