Dr. John Momis Hall: Honoring the father of PNG’s Constitution at the historic Bully Beef Club site

The birthplace of the infamous Bully Beef Club where now the Hall of the Somare Institute of Leadership and Governance sits has been renamed as Dr. John Momis Hall.
The naming of the hall not only paid tribute to Dr. Momis as the father of PNG's Constitution but also reflects the institution's rich history.
Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, Kinoka Feo says Somare Institute is more than an institution, it is a living reminder that leadership is not about power, fame or privilege, but more about vision, courage and sacrifice.
It reminds us that our past must not be forgotten but celebrated.

Minister Feo noted that Dr. Momis is rightly remembered as the architect of Papua New Guinea's constitution.
"At a time when our young nation was setting for direction, he led and crafted the guiding framework that has held us together as a democracy for half a century.
"The constitution he shaped was not a borrowed document, it was rooted in our traditions, our communal values and our aspirations as a Melanesian people.
"Father Momis' wisdom was in recognizing that our laws must reflect not only Western principles of governance, but also the spiritual and cultural fabric of Papua New Guinea.
"He gave us a constitution that balances rights and responsibilities, liberty and community, tradition and progress.
"It is therefore fitting that a building within this institution carry his name," said Minister Feo.
Furthermore, he said this is more than an honorary gesture.
It is a symbol and a reminder to every student who walks in this hall that leadership is about vision, intellect, and importantly the courage to design a future larger than one's own.
As the home of the Bully Beef Club, SILAG now also becomes the home where Father Momis' legacy of constitutional wisdom will continue to inspire new generations.
