Milne Bay PHA celebrates 50th pre-independence anniversary

The Alotau Provincial Hospital was abuzz on Tuesday, staff of the Milne Bay Provincial Health Authority holding pre-Independence celebrations.
There was a flag raising ceremony to begin it all, a moment observed by staff from their curative, public health and corporate services banded together for.
The hospital's strife and transformation over the years was the focus of the celebrations, former chief executive officer of the then Alotau General Hospital Dr Geoffery Mataio reflected on the past and praised the efforts of those today for leading healthcare efforts for Milne Bay.
He says the milestone so far has been the establishing of specialist medical and clinical care, services that the people of Milne Bay enjoy today.
CEO for the MBPHA, Dr Perista Mamadi meantime, acknowledged the forefathers of Milne Bay and leaders who've brought the province this far.
He also reflected on the milestones archived through the years with the establishment of specialist medical and nursing care as well as the training of specialist medical and nursing personnel to improve health service delivery in the province.
The current health workforce within the PHA have been encouraged to put effort and value into the position they hold.
“Value yourself and the position you hold, knowing that the energy you put in saves a life. If there is nothing to give, give your smile”, Dr Mamadi told staff.
