Papua New Guinea’s Barramundis came close but fell short against Kuwait, losing by 4 wickets in a thrilling encounter at the Farmers Cricket Club Ground in St Martin during their ICC CWC Challenge League A 2024–26 campaign, on Monday.

Batting first, PNG struggled to build a competitive total, being bowled out for 148 in 35.2 overs. Kuwait’s disciplined bowling, led by captain Mohammed Aslam [3 for 32], kept the Barras under constant pressure.

Kuwait’s chase started shakily, reduced to 29 for 3 inside four overs, but Aslam’s commanding 55 from 50 balls, along with crucial contributions from Ravija Sandaruwan [32] and [Shiraz Khan [23], steadied the innings and guided the visitors to a 149 for 6 victory in just 22.4 overs.

PNG’s bowlers fought hard, with Damien Ravu [2 for 21] and Kabua Morea [2 wickets] creating moments of tension. At 97 for 6, hopes of a comeback flared briefly, but Kuwait held firm.

It was a tough contest, and Kuwait showed composure under pressure despite PNG creating opportunities. It was Kuwait's captain’s all-round performance that made the difference.

Player of the Match honours went to Mohammed Aslam for his decisive all-round display, combining crucial wickets with a match-winning half-century.

Despite the loss, the Barramundis remain determined to bounce back in the remaining Jersey Tour fixtures.

They remain focused on learning from the tight contest and improving their performance as the ICC CWC Challenge League A continues.
