The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Papua New Guinea has commemorated Indonesia’s 80th Independence Anniversary with a small but significant ceremony in Port Moresby.

The celebration began with a flag-raising ceremony, followed by speeches, cultural performances, and food sharing.

Indonesian Ambassador to Papua New Guinea, Andriana Supandy, described the occasion as a proud milestone for PNG’s closest neighbor.

“We celebrate the 80th anniversary of Indonesian independence, and this year is also very special as we prepare to mark the golden jubilee of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea and the 50th anniversary of bilateral relations between our two countries,” Ambassador Supandy said.

He confirmed that Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, along with senior government officials, will attend PNG’s 50th Independence Jubilee celebrations on September 15–16. The visit will also include the fourth Annual Leaders’ Dialogue between President Subianto and Prime Minister James Marape.

Ambassador Supandy spoke on the importance of both events, saying they reflect the strong friendship and growing cooperation between the two nations.

During the ceremony, a long-serving officer Amad Arief Adnan was also recognized for his service to the Indonesian state.
