More than 100 nurses serving in West Sepik Province are set to benefit from the Nurses Savings and Loans Society, which was launched nearly a year ago.

The sign-up was officially completed last Friday in Vanimo when the Chief Executive Officer of the Nurses Savings and Loans Society, Justeen Luna Pindipi, led a team from the PNG Nurses Association [PNGNA] to enroll members. The delegation included PNGNA President Fredrick Kebai, General Secretary Mulina Kwalimu, Insurance Manager Henry Kwapena, and Admin and Finance Manager Joylene Momak.

West Sepik Provincial Health Authority Nurses Association President, Jerom Matkale, said the initiative is a great opportunity for nurses to save and access financial support when needed.

“All nurses at Vanimo Hospital have already joined. Some in rural areas have signed up as well, and more are expected to join soon after receiving information about the society,” Matkale said.

PNGNA president Kebai said that the society was established to address the financial struggles faced by nurses.

“We care for you, and we want you to be happy while serving patients,” Kebai told the nurses.

CEO Pindipi added that the loan facility offers a low repayment rate of 1 percent per month, or 12 percent per year, making it one of the most affordable options available. Nurses were also briefed on additional benefits, including PNGNA Insurance.

Kebai further updated members on the association’s latest developments, including the signing of the new Industrial Award on May 23, 2025. He said once the award is registered and gazetted, nurses will benefit from improved allowances, including uniform and rural attraction allowances.

Currently, about 92 nurses serve at Vanimo General Hospital, with another 34 working in rural health facilities, most of which are run by churches.
