Security reinforced as Usino-Bundi by-election counting nears completion

Security coverage for the Usino/ Bundi by-election in Madang Province has been strengthened as counting approaches its final stages, with only six ballot boxes remaining in the elimination phase.
Madang Provincial Police Commander, Acting Superintendent Robert Baim, called on all candidates who have bowed out of the race to accept the outcome peacefully.
“I call on all good leaders and candidates who have bowed out of the race to be at peace, accept the outcome, go back home, and recover from the loss.
"The next major election is coming in the next one and a half years; it is not that far, so be at peace. This is only a by-election,” Baim said.
He further warned against any attempts to disrupt the electoral process.
"We are already into the final elimination process. Security has been tightened up, and anyone who wants to play around will also be eliminated. There is no cat-and-mouse game. All must respect the process and let it go through so we find good leaders for the people of Usino/ Bundi for the next year and a half year,” he stated.
Security forces have increased their presence at the counting centre and strategic locations to deter disruption. Clear protocols are in place for candidates, observers, and the public, with rapid response teams ready to address any threats or unrest.
Police continue to coordinate closely with local authorities, election officials, and security partners to maintain order and protect the integrity of the process.
“Anyone that threatens public safety or undermines the electoral process will be dealt with decisively in accordance with PNG law,” Acting Superintendent Baim added.
The by-election counting is expected to conclude soon, with the official declaration anticipated today after lunch, as voters and stakeholders await the final results.
