Student injured in Brandi high school fire

At least one student has been hospitalised following a fire that broke out at the Brandi Secondary School boys dormitory between 2am and 3am this morning.
Wewak police and emergency workers from the Fire Service arrived immediately at the scene,to assist in the the evabuation of students, many of whom were asleep when the fire started.
The injured student was taken to Boram Hospital for treatment. The extent of injuries has not been disclosed.
East Sepik Provincial Police Commander, Superintendent Christopher Tamari, confirmed that a full investigation is underway.
"We are treating this matter seriously. There are suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident, and our team will conduct a thorough inquiry to determine the cause,” Superintendent Tamari said.

Brandi Secondary School is one of East Sepik’s most respected educational institutions, known for producing many of the province’s distinguished leaders and professionals.
The fire has raised concerns among parents and the wider community, prompting calls for stronger safety protocols in boarding facilities.
School officials are working closely with authorities to assess the damage and ensure the well-being of all students.
Fire starters identified

Meantime, two suspects were identified and apprehended by the Wewak police fox unit and two men are now in police custody.
East Sepik Provincial Police Commander, Superintendent Christopher Tamari, confirmed the arrests saying
“I commend my men for their swift response and professionalism in handling this matter. Their efforts have brought us closer to uncovering the truth behind this incident”.
Investigations will continue with authorities indicating that more arrests are expected in the coming days as evidence is gathered and leads are pursued.
The affected students, mostly grade 9 male boarders will be temporarily accommodated in the school hall.
