Somare honoured with monument as symbol of unity and legacy

The National Parliament came to live tonight as the life-size Monument of the country's founding father late Grand Chief Sir Michael Thomas Somare was unveiled.
The Monument unveiled at 8pm stands in front of the Parliament as a Pillar of Unity.
It is a symbol of honoring the contributions of the late founding father, which serves as a reminder of selfless service to the nation.
According to Arthur Somare, the Monument is enshrined with memories of a man whose life carved out this nation's destiny.
He described his late father as a man who believed that leadership is not about power nor status, but all
about liberating and empowering the people of this land.
He saw strength in diversity and unity in our complexity.
This great man's legacy was celebrated tonight by citizens across the country.
Prime Minister James Marape paid tribute to the founding father, saying the Monument befits a man who stood tall for his country.
He added, let it be a reminder to every political leader, public servant and citizen that the call to lead is a call to serve.
Governor General Sir Bob Dadae also spoke highly of the late founding father.
He challenged this generation to stop the blame games, reflect on the exemplary leadership shown by the founding fathers and carry on that legacy.
Long live PNG, long live the spirit of unity and prosperity.
