Police Minister Peter Tsiamalili Jnr has condemned the brutal killing of a young woman in Madang, allegedly by her husband, who is a serving police officer.

Minister Tsiamalili said the incident was a shameful betrayal of public trust and assured that the accused will face the full force of justice.

“This tragedy cannot go unpunished. The perpetrator will answer for his actions,” Tsiamalili said. “I commend the officers who acted swiftly to arrest and remand the suspect without bail at the initial stage. Their actions show that criminal behavior, regardless of who commits it, will not be tolerated.”

The police minister stressed that police officers are expected to uphold the highest standards of conduct, warning that any officer committing a crime will be treated like any other offender.

Tsiamalili also voiced concern over a recent National Court decision granting bail to the accused, calling it a potential threat to community safety and witness protection.

“While I respect the independence of the judiciary, granting bail in such a severe case undermines the diligent work of our police investigators,” he said. “We must examine legislative and judicial frameworks that allow bail in serious violent crime cases.”

He extended his condolences to the victim’s family, assuring them that justice will be served.

“To the grieving family, I offer my deepest sympathies. As Police Minister, I assure you we will not rest until the perpetrator is held fully accountable. Your daughter deserves justice, and we will see that justice is done,” Tsiamalili said.
