The Mt Hagen Chamber of Commerce has received a funding injection of K200,000 from the Western Highlands Provincial Government [WHPG] to help revitalize its operations and strengthen its role in promoting business development across the province.

Western Highlands Governor Wai Rapa presented the cheque to Chamber President Dr Allan Kulunga during a breakfast meeting with members of the business community at Sir Mara Haus, the provincial headquarters.

The chamber had been dormant for several years but is now regaining its position as an active stakeholder in driving economic growth in Mt Hagen.

Governor Rapa said renewed investor confidence had brought new business activity to the province, making it crucial for the chamber to effectively represent the interests of local businesses.

“In previous years, the chamber was defunct, leaving businesses to operate at their own risk,” Rapa said. “Since our provincial revenue depends mainly on taxes, the revitalized chamber will ensure businesses pay their dues. This will benefit the people of Western Highlands through improved services in all four districts.”

The Governor commended businesses that have continued paying taxes diligently and urged others to liaise with the chamber to ensure compliance.

Dr Kulunga said the funds would be used to rebuild the defunct chamber and strengthen collaboration within the business community.
