Don Bosco Technical College at Gabutu in Moresby South has received 100 new computers from local MP and Minister for Immigration, Justin Tkachenko, to boost its IT courses.

The college has already installed all the computers in its newly completed IT library, which is now ready for student use.

MP Tkachenko said Don Bosco took the lead in setting up the facility, while the Moresby South District Development Authority [DDA] contributed by sponsoring the computers.

"All I did was sign a cheque and said, ‘Here you go, make it happen,’ and here we are today," Tkachenko said.

He described the occasion as a significant milestone, saying the new IT library would support short IT courses and other training programs. He noted that Papua New Guineans, especially those from Moresby South, would now have access to modern IT resources to advance their education and improve their skills.

"To all the students currently studying, we will continue to support the good work that you are doing,” he added. “I look forward to your first graduation of IT specialists coming out of this new IT library here at Don Bosco."

Colloge Rector Fr Pedro Sachitula thanked the MP for his continued support and commitment to education.

"When he promises something, he makes it happen, and we are witnesses to that," Fr Sachitula said.

He acknowledged the college’s humble beginnings and praised Tkachenko for helping them upgrade their facilities.

“Last year we opened this site, and this year the minister gave us the honour of launching the IT lab extension,” he said. “We want to offer the best, and it’s only with the help of good people that our dreams can come true.”

He commended Tkachenko’s leadership, not only for supporting Don Bosco but also for his broader service to the community.

The college continues to expand its learning capacity and now plans to enrol more students in its IT programs in the coming years.
