MiBank successfully hosted its first-ever esiloans and lending roadshow in Alotau last week Friday, aiming to foster new business opportunities, strengthen partnerships, and support the growth of existing enterprises across the Milne Bay Province.

Held at Masurina Lodge, the event drew more than 90 invited guests representing over 20 organisations from Alotau and surrounding districts. The roadshow theme, “Grow with Us into the Future,” aligned with MiBank’s corporate tagline, “Grow with Us.”

In her opening remarks, Alotau Branch Manager Keilo Nelson welcomed attendees and emphasized the importance of engaging with local stakeholders.

“This event is held to acknowledge all our stakeholders and partners, provide information about our organisation and products, and facilitate interaction with everyone,” Ms. Nelson said.

She highlighted Milne Bay Estates, one of the province’s largest employers with over 3,000 staff as a key user of MiBank’s Esiloans product.

“The staff of Milne Bay Estates have access to our Esiloans loan product, and their salaries are paid through the MiPei system,” she said.

The event was attended by Member for Alotau Ricky Morris, who served as special guest, and Member for Wau-Waria Marsh Narewec, who was welcomed to the province during the occasion.

In a show of continued partnership, MP Morris reaffirmed support for MiBank’s efforts to expand financial access in the district.

“The Alotau District Development Authority will continue to work with MiBank,” he announced. “We will disburse K500,000 to support the ongoing Credit Guarantee Scheme to assist local businesses in accessing loans.”

In 2023, the Alotau DDA deposited K300,000 under the Credit Guarantee Scheme with MiBank to support small-scale commercial and agricultural activities. The renewed funding aims to broaden that impact.

Presentations during the roadshow included an overview of MiBank’s history, shareholders, and operations. Tracey Murray, Business Development Manager for Esiloans, shared insights on the Esiloans product, while Beverly Oika, Business Development Manager for Lending, presented details about SME loans and other financial services.

Local entrepreneur Benjamin Yawi, owner of Jala Transport Service in Alotau, gave a personal testimony of his journey with MiBank.

“For small people like me, MiBank has been the foundation to start and grow our businesses,” he said. “Today, I operate three vehicles serving the people of Alotau, thanks to MiBank.”
