A solemn dawn service was held this morning at the Murray Barracks parade ground to commemorate Remembrance Day, honoring those who served and sacrificed in times of war.

Members of the public, including school children, families of Papua New Guinea Defence Force [PNGDF] personnel, former PNGDF commanders, and bilateral partners gathered from as early as 4 a.m. to take part in the significant national event.

PNGDF Commander Rear Admiral Philip Polewara acknowledged the presence of the children and families from within the Murray Barracks community, expressing appreciation for their early turnout and commitment to preserving national history.

“This program embodies the spirit and history of our country,” Rear Admiral Polewara said during his address.

He reminded those in attendance of the bravery and sacrifice shown by Papua New Guineans who served during times of conflict, laying the foundation for the country’s enduring partnership with its allies.

“War is not just about winning or losing, it is also about those who were left behind,” he said.

As Papua New Guinea prepares to celebrate its 50th Independence Anniversary, Rear Admiral Polewara urged citizens to reflect on the contributions of their forefathers who fought for the freedom the country enjoys today.
