Madang Provincial Police Commander, Acting Superintendent Robert Baim, has denied recent social media claims alleging ballot box tampering in the ongoing Usino-Bundi by-election.

A widely circulated online post claimed that eight ballot boxes, allegedly connected to a specific candidate, were intercepted by security personnel.

It further alleged that these boxes had been transported from Igam Barracks by members of the Papua New Guinea Defence Force [PNGDF] and were now being held at Walium Police Station.

But PPC Baim labeled the post as false and misleading, calling it misinformation with no factual basis.

"I have personally conducted inquiries into these allegations and confirm there is no evidence to support any such claims," he said.

"No ballot boxes have been intercepted or tampered with during this election."

Baim said PNGDF personnel seen in the province are part of a scheduled military movement from Wewak to Lae. He clarified that they are engaged in standard training and logistics and not election-related activities.

"At no point have the PNGDF been involved in electoral operations," he said. "Their presence is part of normal Defence Force operations and should not be misconstrued."

The PPC said such rumors during election could erode public trust and disrupt the electoral process.

"The spread of false information can incite unnecessary fear and undermine the peace and fairness of the election," he said.

"We urge all citizens to share only verified information and rely on official sources such as the Electoral Commission and the police."

He also reminded the public that spreading false or malicious content could result in legal consequences under national laws.

Baim assured that the police, in coordination with electoral officials and the PNGDF, are committed to maintaining law and order throughout the by-election.

"Let us work together to ensure the Usino/Bundi by-election reflects the democratic will of the people and supports peace and stability across the province," he said.

He encouraged candidates, supporters, and all community members to report any genuine concerns directly to police rather than fueling speculation online.
