UNFPA facilitate training with Bougainville media fraternity

The United Nations Population Fund [UNFPA] have facilitated a two-day training workshop at Hahela in Buka with various media houses in Bougainville.

This training is under Peacebuilding Project. Led by Communication Specialist Suleiman Okoth and Consultant Rachel Donovan, the training aims to help media professionals to improve their skills in reporting to support and enhance peacebuilding efforts in respective communities.

Over the two- day training the media personnel from Post Courier, NBC Bougainville, the ABG Media and Communications Bureau, and New Dawn FM went through various topics.

They include the media's role in building peace and supporting changes after the referendum, Ethical and conflict-sensitive journalism practices and Survivor-centered methods for reporting on gender-based violence [GBV] and Sorcery Accusation-Related Violence [SARV].

The workshop also elaborates on basics of journalism including importance of accuracy, fairness, and balance in news reporting and also learn how to write the stories that will promote peace and bring positive change that will transform the lives of people and communities in Bougainville.

Meanwhile the training workshop commenced on Thursday and ended yesterday.
