Speaking to NBC News, one of the female students who wants to remain anonymous said they were attacked around 7 o'clock last night during their study time by a group of men armed with bush knives and a gun.

She said the rascal mob proceeded to enter the girls' dormitory, threatened them not to scream while collecting all their mobile phones and other valuable items.

The student said the rascals started to stab and slash them with knives soon after collecting all their phones. Several of them ran for the door to get outside but one of the men locked the door.

Responding to the girls' crying screams for help, the male students intervened and the group of men left.

"Our head boy was lucky to have jumped into a drain when the gunman fired a shot at him," she said.

"Police from Lae came as soon as they could, we were brought to the hospital and the police went back with our principle to the school," she continued.

The Provincial Police Commander, Superintendent Jacob Singura told NBC News that he has tasked his men to be on the ground and continue investigations until suspects are apprehended.
