With just over a month to go before the 12th Pacific Mini Games in Palau, Team PNG is intensifying preparations as it aims to defend its championship title won at the 2022 Games in the Northern Marianas.

On Sunday, May 25, Team PNG athletes and officials came together for a team bonding session, signaling the final phase of readiness ahead of the Games, scheduled for June 29 to July 9.

The session focused on unity, preparation, and national pride, while also serving as a briefing on logistics and expectations for the Games.

PNG Olympic Committee President Emma Waiwai addressed the team, urging athletes to carry themselves with dignity and pride as representatives of Papua New Guinea on the regional stage.

“I acknowledge the hard work, dedication and sacrifice each of you has made to earn your place on this team,” Waiwai said.

“You are not just athletes and officials, you are ambassadors of Papua New Guinea,” said Waiwai.
Chef de Mission Kinivanagi Karo echoed Waiwai’s sentiments, highlighting the team's shared goal of retaining the title.

“In the last Pacific Mini Games, Team PNG came out on top. Our mission this year is clear, we are going there to defend the title, and I believe we can,” said Karo.

Team PNG is set to compete in nine sports, including: athletics, beach volleyball, indoor volleyball, softball, swimming, table tennis, volleyball, va'a and weightlifting.

The final team list for Palau is expected to be announced soon.

As the countdown to the games continues, Team PNG is focused on winning and representing the country with honor and unity.
