Wards in Madang Urban implement Community Policing concept

The Community Policing concept in Madang Urban is a success story with almost all ten Wards having their own setups.
Some of them have been operating for over a year now with support from the Madang Provincial Government and the Madang District Development Authority [MDDA].
Each Ward has Community Policing Units [CPU] setups in their various zones.
Zone 4 of Ward 7 recently launched its unit at Tulip Park [Kuperu St.], witnessed by former Town Mayor Ishmael Yama, outgoing Mayor Peter Yalsi Masia, youth representative Bonny Solomon and others.
The speakers emphasized that for the community to change, it requires collaboration and collective effort.
Masia highlighted that law and order is everyone's responsibility and that change must come from within the community.
The community policing program will receive ongoing funding from the Governor’s Office and will be supported by the reservist rollout training program.
Former Mayor Ishmael Yama and former Ward 7 Councilor, Bonny Solomon urged the community to remain vigilant and be committed to the CPU program, which is important for the well-being of everyone.
Madang Provincial Police Commander, Robert Baim commended all CPUs in Madang town, stating that their commitment has contributed immensely to the overall decline in criminal activities around town.
PPC Baim said "Although the CPU members are volunteers, they continue to play a tremendous role in deterring crimes in their respective Wards. I urge residents of each Ward to support them."
He is confident that such initiatives can restore Madang back to its former glory.
