Hekari United women's football club will face off with Auckland United this Sunday [PNG time] in the grand final of the third edition of the OFC Women's Champions League in Tahiti.

Both sides were frontrunners to make the finals, and both lived up to the predictions.

This will also be a repeat of last year's OWCL grand final in Honiara where Auckland edged out Hekari 1-0 to claim the top prize.

Both teams met again in the group stages last week and the New Zealand champions were victorious again winning 2-1.

Having to win their previous games against Hekari narrowly, Auckland United Coach Ben Bate is expecting another competitive contest against the PNG champions.

Meanwhile Hekari Coach Erickson Komeng believes their narrow losses to Auckland in their two outings have given them a clear picture on where to improve.

Auckland's run in this year's tournament saw them unbeaten all through the group stages overpowering AS Pirae 11-0 [Tahiti], defeating Hekari 2-1 [PNG] and then hammering Pansa [American Samoa]11-0 before meeting Henderson Eels [Solomon Islands] in the semis and beating them 6-1.

Meanwhile for Hekari, they started off with a big 12-0 win over Pansa [American Samoa], then lost to Auckland 2-1 [New Zealand], eased passed AS Pirae [Tahiti] with a 2-0 win before meeting Ba FC [Fiji] in the semis and beating them 6-1.

Auckland is now aiming for back to back titles while Hekari on the other hand are marching on to dethrone the champions.

The winner will qualify for the inaugural FIFA Women's Champions Cup next year against the AFC champions.
