Third person arrested for mother and daughter bashing in Madang

A woman has been arrested after it was found through CCTV footage that she was involved in the assault of Josephine (above) and her 13-year-old daughter (NBC News)

A third person has been arrested in Madang in relation to the cruel bashing of a mother and her daughter at the Yaho Supermarket last week.

Twenty- four year old Merian Pais from Yarana Village in the Pangia/ Ialibu District of Southern Highlands Province was identified by the police investigation team through a CCTV footage that was obtained from the shop early this week.

Her involvement in the malicious attack on Josephine Kadignam and her 13- year old daughter was also confirmed by witnesses' statements that have been collected by the investigation team.

Merian was picked up by police yesterday at the RSL settlement, where she resides.

She's also been slapped with two charges each of Assault Occasioning Bodily Harm and Deprivation of Liberty.

Merian has been allowed a K500 police bail as she has a 13 month old baby that baby that she is still breastfeeding.

The first two male suspects who were arrested and charged earlier in the week were arraigned yesterday by the Madang Committal Court.

Provincial Police Commander for Madang, Acting Superintendent Robert Baim said investigation is continuing.
