14 candidates contest in the Central Bougainville By-elections

A total of 14 candidates, all men, are contesting the Central Bougainville by-election currently underway.

Writ for the election was issued last Thursday May 8, and the weeklong nomination period ended yesterday May 15 at 4 o’clock in the afternoon.

Seven nominations were registered from last Thursday up to Wednesday this week.

These nominations include Albert William Reinhart, Jimmy Miringtoro, Francis Pais, Gilbert Saika, Dominic Ampa’Oi, Eugene Moses and Lohial Nuau.

Seven more nominations were registered yesterday, on the last day of nomination.

The additional candidates include Rodney Niangko, Arnold Ona, Matthew Kusa, Paul Pape Steward, Eastern Kasika Kirupana, Dominic Itta and Flynn Narunsi Detou.

The order of draw to allocate candidate numbers were conducted yesterday at the OBEC Office in Arawa.

The three weeks campaign period started from the day of nomination, which was last week, until May 30.

Polling will take five multiple days from the second to the 6th of June.

Counting of ballots will take three weeks from June 7th to the 27th and the writs returned the same day, to mark the end of the Central Bougainville by-election.
