Two suspects arrested in Yaho Supermarket assault

Police in Madang have apprehended two young men in relation to the grievous assault of a mother and her 13-year-old daughter, which took place last Saturday at a town supermarket over allegations of shoplifting.
The suspects were arrested at Laiwaden Oval earlier today. According to police, the men claimed they were on their scheduled day off and were not on duty at the time of the arrest.
The suspects have been identified as David Dinaiwa, 27, from Kagua-Erave District, and Micah Tandaku, 20, from Ialibu-Pangia District, both of the Southern Highlands Province.
According to police reports, David Dinaiwa was the main aggressor, while Micah Tandaku filmed the assault.
Both men have been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm, under section 340 of the PNG Criminal Code Act, and Unlawful Detention.
During questioning, the two suspects admitted that two other individuals were also involved in the incident. Police have identified these persons and are working to bring them in for questioning.
Meanwhile, the victim, 45-year-old Josephine Kadignam, confirmed in her interview with police and media today that the assault took place at Yaho Supermarket warehouse.
The incident, which went viral on social media over the weekend, has drawn public outrage and prompted calls for immediate justice. Police investigations are ongoing.
