Bayune secondary receives new truck from Bulolo MP

Bayune Secondary School in the Bulolo District of Morobe Province received a boost to student transport last week, as local MP Sam Basil Jr officially handed over the keys to a new truck during a presentation ceremony on the school grounds.
Basil urged the school administration to use the vehicle to ease student travel along the highway.
“I see students always struggling to get to school on time and later returning home. School, please assist them with this new truck,” Basil said.
The MP also pledged to purchase an additional truck to cater for students traveling from the Bulolo side of the district.
“I understand that students come from as far as Timini and Bulolo. I will buy another vehicle to serve students from the Bulolo area, while this one will be for those traveling from the Timini side up to Bayune,” he added.
Bayune Secondary is the only school in the district providing secondary education and is under growing pressure to accommodate increasing student numbers.

Basil also officiated a groundbreaking ceremony for a new six-in-one classroom building. This project is in addition to two others he has already initiated at the school.
He further pledged to upgrade previous projects, including a male dormitory and a classroom block, expressing disappointment over substandard work delivered by the original contractors.
The Executive Officer of the Morobe Provincial Education Division, Allister Hugugec, praised the young MP’s initiative and commitment to education.
“As we transition into the National Government’s One Entry, One Exit policy, which removes the Grade 8 examination, it’s vital that we prepare for increased demand for school infrastructure,” Hugugec said. “With all Grade 8 students progressing directly to Grade 9 at Bayune, this six-in-one classroom is timely and essential. It will ensure a smooth transition for students as they continue their education.”
Hugugec also emphasized the importance of collaboration, stating: “Let this occasion serve as a testament to what can be achieved when we work together. Let us continue investing in our children—they are the foundation upon which the future of our province and our nation rests.”
