PNG Minister for ICT Timothy Masiu has congratulated his Solomon Islands counterpart, Frederick Kologeto, on his recent appointment as the Deputy Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands Government.

Mr Kologeto was appointed soon after a meeting with Masiu in Honiara during last week’s Pacific Islands Telecommunications Association [PITA] conference where the Solomon Islands government gave its strong backing for the Lagatoi Declaration which advocates for stronger ICT development in the region.

"I am particularly pleased as Hon Kologeto is a strong supporter of the Declaration and his appointment to the office of the Deputy Prime Minister gives added strength and status of the level of participation to pursue this critical ICT agenda in the region", Masiu said.

Deputy Prime Minister Frederick Kologeto has been a strong supporter of the Lagatoi Declaration.

Minister Masiu says the elevation to the position of deputy Prime Minister in his country also speaks volumes of his caliber as a young vibrant leader.

Minister Masiu also commended Solomon Islands Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele for appointing Kologeto, describing him as a hardworking minister and a strong partner in advancing digital transformation in the region.

"I wish him, his family, and his people in his electorate all the best in his political challenges ahead", Masiu added.
