Elcong Primary School opens new e-learning and science lab

Elcong Primary School in North Waghi District has opened a new E-Learning and Science Lab to help students improve their digital and science skills.
At the opening ceremony last Friday, National Education Department representative Thomas Pondarua said that classrooms must move beyond basic learning to include computer and technology education. He encouraged students to use their phones for learning instead of just watching TikTok or social media.
Pondarua said giving students access to computers at an early age is important to help them become part of the global digital community.
The school received 17 desktop computers from Lite Haus International PNG. Mathew Umbe, the North Waghi District Schools Inspector, said public and private partnerships like this are key to improving education. He said more computers may be given in the future if the current ones are used well.

North Waghi MP Benjamin Mul officially opened the new lab, along with a new ablution block, school fencing, and a partly completed Early Childhood Education [ECE] building. He praised the school’s progress and promised K25,000 more in funding for future projects.
Mul, who is also the director of Waigani Christian University Academy, said he is proud to support education and commended Head Teacher Paul Kundi for leading the school’s improvements.
Kundi said the new buildings and lab were completed in two years, using funds from the government’s Tuition Fee Free [TFF] program, a K60,000 grant from the Jiwaka Provincial Government, and project fees collected from students and parents.
