The Police Department is looking to tighten up its recruitment process amidst concerns of biased practices and an abuse of processes.

Police Minister, Peter Tsiamalili Junior, told parliament today they have outsourced recruitment and are expecting 1000 new recruits to beef up police manpower by 2025.

He was responding to questions from Western Highlands Governor Wai Rapa, on the validity of the police recruitment process.

The Police Minister has been in the spotlight lately, with eyes on how the department and the government is addressing this concerning trend of lawlessness.

He’s highlighted one of the biggest challenges faced in the recruitment process was nepotism and under his leadership, stringent measures were taken to outsource the recruitment process.

The need for more manpower is being addressed as well with the ongoing police personnel at the Bomana Training College.

Tsiamalili Junior says, that besides 1000 new recruits for next year, he’s urging provincial governments to partner with the department for the deployment of reservists to the districts and provinces.

Meantime the police minister has described a recent incident of police officers arguing with each other regarding the alleged biased recruitment of cadets at the Bomana training college as “unfortunate” and one that could have been addressed more amicably.
