Two men have been arrested in Milne Bay, following the death of a French man near Bonabona Island, Suau, Alotau, on Friday 26th July.
Police allege the French national was murdered on his yacht on 26th July, which was sunken with his body.
Commissioner of Police David Manning says the two main suspects remain in custody with investigations continuing. Divers are working on retrieving the man's body.
Mr Manning has described this crime as abhorrent and those found responsible will spend a long time in jail.
“There can be no excuse for this type of opportunistic and pathetic crime. This man was traveling through our country and was attacked by cowards", the police commissioner said in a statement today.
Police have taken the two accused off the streets and they are now in police cells.
The top police boss has issued a warning to their criminal type that police will find them, arrest them and they will pay for their violent crimes.
“The recently launched PPV Minigulai patrol vessel will soon commence its first operational tour - enforcing laws and safety for communities in Milne Bay and across other coastal communities,” Manning said.
The National Government is in talks with the Government of France.
