Gamai calls on LLG leaders to stay in communities as new chamber opens

The new Fly Gogodala local level government [LLG] chamber was officially opened on Monday at Tapila Station in the Delta Fly district of Western by local MP and Livestock Minister Agena Gamai.

The decision to construct the chamber was passed in 2024 by members of the District Development Authority [DDA] board.

The new facility will house local government operations and administration, bringing decision-making and service delivery closer to the rural population of Fly Gogodala.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, Gamai told the local community that following his election in 2022 as the pioneer Member for Delta Fly, his vision was to ensure that administrative operations were not concentrated solely at the district headquarters.

"My vision was to build the seat of government in all the LLG growth centres," Gamai said.

"Today marks the fulfillment of part of that vision that I had, and others will follow."

Gamai encouraged all LLG presidents to return to their respective areas and remain stationed with their people to ensure basic services reach the grassroots level.

The chamber opening was part of a broader community programme that also featured the official opening of a new Evangelical Church of Papua New Guinea [ECPNG] building to serve the spiritual needs of the Tapila community.

Additionally, a dinghy was presented to the Tapila Health Centre to support emergency transport and movement for health workers and patients in the riverine district.

The ceremony was witnessed by DDA members, LLG presidents for Tabo, Fly Gogodala, and Bamu, former Fly Gogodala leadership, as well as community members from Tapila and surrounding villages.
