Haiveta addresses PEC on next step of K60m warrants drawn by Treasury

The case between the Gulf Provincial Government and the National Government is scheduled for mention on Monday, the 5th of August.
Gulf Governor, Sir Chris Haiveta, and Jema Lawyers met with the Gulf Provincial Executive Council in Kerema on Monday to discuss this matter.
The meeting basically was to give firsthand to the PEC, events that had taken place and the actions the Governor has taken regarding the K60m warrants drawn by the Department of Treasury.
Sir Chris told the PEC that one warrant had three transfers authorized by the Treasurer, directing 20 million kina, meant for Papua LNG, to the Enga provincial government instead of the Gulf Province.
The Provincial Executive Council expressed their support for the governor's actions, while the lawyers provided a brief overview of the court documents filed and the upcoming proceedings.
In a resolution, the lawyers requested the PEC to pursue the case and related proceedings in the interest of the Gulf Provincial Government.
These may include the K20m Business Development Grants under Papua LNG, the remaining K40m Business Development Grants under PNG LNG for all impacted provinces [including Gulf], equity grants for Papua LNG, and the annual constitutional grants for provincial and local level governments that have not been received.
Sir Chris emphasized that this case is of great significance for the province.
