CRU to host golf fundraiser

Capital Rugby Union will be conducting its inaugural Golf Day at the Royal Port Moresby Golf Club tomorrow to raise funds to support Moni Plus CRU Junior Rugby Program and the establishment of a Schools Rugby Program for National Capital District.
The golf day will involve 36 teams from the corporate and private sectors who will play a round of 18 holes, "teeing off" with a shot gun start at 11.00am and finishing at 6.00pm.
CRU president Kori Chan said he was humbled by the interest shown by the business community and government in supporting this event.
Pepsi CRU is working on formalizing key strategic partnerships with government and private sector to establish a school’s rugby program for primary and high schools in the nation’s capital.
Chan said that it was important that an event of this type had been earmarked for junior rugby and schools' program.
“Our children are the future of our sport and as such it is important that we invest in their development at an early age," he said.
All teams will gather for an after-match function at the Club House following the golf day, where tournament prizes for the top 20 teams will be presented along with Novelty Prizes, raffles draw, and an auction of a jersey and balls signed by former Australian Wallabies great Will Genia, Matt Toomua and Aidan Toua.
There will be a moderated panel discussion with Genia, Toomua, Toua and PNG’s very own Jonah Kautu of Brothers, Boromas and Pukpuks fame.
During the discussion invited guests will be given an opportunity to ask the panel questions.
Mr. Chan thanked the CRU Sponsors in particular naming rights Pepsi, Moni Plus, NiuPower, Vodafone and the teams for participating in what will be a fun filled day and evening for all involved.
