The enumeration phase of the National Population and Housing Census is yet to commence in West New Britain Province.

This delay is due to the non-availability of census materials.

Provincial Census Coordinator, Chris Marisa confirmed this today in an interview on NBC WNB.

He explained that the enumeration exercise should commence later this week once all the required materials arrive from the National Statistical Office in Port Moresby.

Mr. Marisa attributed the delays to issues at the NSO and also transportation problems faced with AIR Niugini and Post PNG.

He says all enumerators in the 12 Local Level Governments of the province have completed their trainings and are ready to start work once the materials are dispatched to them.

Meanwhile, the NSO-supplied tablets to be used for the Census have arrived in the province but will only be used in selected LLGS while the rest will be using the paper based data collection method.

Gulf Province is expected to start late with the conduct of the National Population and housing census program this year.

This is mainly due to delay in funding support from the Provincial Government and the receipt of census materials.

Provincial Census Cordinator, Nohoro Amaroa says, they are yet to conduct training for the enumerators at the LLG Level.

This is after completing a week long training for the trainers on the 5th of this month.

Amaroa says, the training for the enumerators was supposed to be conducted on the 7th and run for eight days but has since been delayed.
